Assign management jobs within your group.

  1. Research Historian
  2. Creative Story Writer
  3. Virtual Codex Artist

All group members will work together under the appropriate director/manager to complete each step of the project.  Each project step is dependent on the information found in the preceding step.  Be certain to complete them in order.  Remember you are researching an aspect of the life of an individual found in your codex

Step 1
Working together under the direction of the research historian, research the aspect of Aztec society corresponding to your codex, filling in the Aztec research charts (codex retrieval chart and Story Planning Chart) as you collect information.

Step 2
Working together under the direction of the creative story writer, write a 200 -300 word first person narration story from the perspective of a character illustrated in your codex.  Your story will reveal the lifestyle, customs and actual situation of the people represented in the codex.  As your story unfolds, it should clearly demonstrate the key elements of this individual’s worldview.  Use the society links to research information on your codex.

Does your story take place prior to contact with the Spanish, or was Spanish influence a factor in this individual’s choices, decisions and customs?  Be sure to include information related to as many of the elements of worldview that can apply to your story. Remember, depending on your topic, some elements will be more important than others.  Complete the story planning chart when you are researching your information, to scaffold your story as true historical fiction.

Step 3
Under the direction of the virtual codex artist, complete a 6-10 slide power point presentation, telling your story as a modern illustrated codex. Be sure to use at least 6 powerful images to illustrate your story.  Only use images, not text in your power point.  Be sure your images correspond to your story telling text, as you set up your power point. To simplify this process, divide your text up into 6-10 segments, and find the corresponding images.  Use your original codex image as your first slide.

Step 4
Using the smart board or projector, display your original codex image, telling the true story behind the image that you have uncovered from your research.
