Osprey |
1. WHERE IT LIVES |
 |
The Osprey lives throughout the world near bodies of water, like lakes, rivers, marshes, mangroves, and seashores. |

2. APPEARANCE |
The osprey is a large powerful bird.
It grows up to 58 cm and its wings are 1 and ½ meters when spread.
The top of there wings are brown-black and the bottom is white.
On older birds their tails and heads are white as well.
They have sharp claws and a hooked beak |

3. FOOD |
They mostly eat fish, particularly panfish. |
4.PREDATORS |
Foxes, skunks, and raccoons are known to take the osprey’s eggs.
The great horned owl can cause danger to the female ospreys when trying to get her eggs. |
5. THE YOUNG |
The female lays 3-4 eggs.
The really young ospreys only weigh 50-60 grams. |
6. INTERESTING FACTS |
Ospreys have closable nostrils for diving into the water.
They have toes that move in all directions.
They have pads on their feet to help them grip slippery fish.
The typical lifespan is 20-25 years. |
