1. WHERE IT LIVES |
| Buffaloes live on plains, prairies, river valleys and sometimes forests |
|

2. APPEARANCE |
|
The buffalo has shaggy brown hair around the head and neck.
Thick fur goes down the front legs.
The buffalo’s back and hind end are covered with shorter hair.
Buffalo have a long thick beard hanging from the chin and short curved horns. |

3. FOOD |
The buffalo eats mostly grasses like wild oats, rye, and wheat.
It also likes
non flowering plants that grow close to the ground, trailing plants, horsetails, weeds and berries. |

4.PREDATORS |
The buffalo's enemies are the grizzly bear, mountain lion, wolf and coyote.
Man was the buffalo’s biggest enemy. |
5. THE YOUNG |
|
The buffalo’s baby looks a lot like a baby cow.
The babies are called calves.
Its eyes and ears are open and it has a fuzzy reddish coat.
The calf stays close to the mother.
They do not go back to the heard for 2 or 3 days.
The mother and the calf can tell each other by the way each other smells
