White Tailed Deer |
1. WHERE IT LIVES |
| The white-tailed deer lives in wooded areas usually in a forest or the woods |

2. APPEARANCE |
|
The deer's coat is a reddish-brown in the spring and summer and turns to a grey-brown in the fall and winter.
The deer can be recognized by its white tail and reddish brownish dots.
The male can usually weighs from 130 to 220 pounds and the female usually weighs from 90 to 130 pounds |

3. FOOD |
The white-tailed deer is plant eater. I
t eats green plants in the spring and summer.
In the fall, it eats corn, acorns and other nuts.
In the winter, it eats the buds and twigs of woody plants. |

4.PREDATORS |
The hunters of the white tailed deer were once gray wolves and mountain lions but now there aren't many wolves and mountain lions left to prey on the deer.
Sometimes a bobcat or a coyote will kill a young deer, but people and dogs are now the deer's main predators. |
5. THE YOUNG |
|
The female has one to three babies in the springtime.
The babies are reddish-brown at birth with white spots that help hide them from predators.
They can walk at birth and search for food a couple of days later. |

6. INTERESTING FACTS |
Deer are able to run up to 40 miles per hour, jump 9 foot fences, and swim 13 miles per hour.
