Prairie Rattlesnake

1. WHERE IT LIVES

Prairie rattlesnakes are only found in the mountains of south west Canada.

2. APPEARANCE

The appearance of a prairie rattlesnake is a light brown and green with a yellowish belly.
It has dark spots on its back.
Adult prairie rattlesnakes can reach a length of 30 to 40 inches.
An adult snake weighs between 1 and 4 pounds.

3. FOOD      

The snake eats mice, ground squirrels, young prairie dogs and rabbits.
They also eats smaller animal like snakes, lizards, birds and insects.

4.PREDATORS

Snakes are hunted by bigger birds, and bigger snakes than them. They are also eaten by coyotes and wolves.

5. THE YOUNG

Rattlesnake babies are usually black when they are born but eventually turn the same color as the adult

6. INTERESTING FACTS

One of the things that it can do is dislocate their jaw to eat bigger food.
They also have a windpipe that comes out of their mouth to help them breathe when they are eating.
