Training

What was it like to be part of the Ancient Olympic Games?
Students will explore an interactive website and learn what is was like to be part of the multi-day ceremony.

 

The Long Jump – exploring the evolution of the games
Students will create a time line of events from Ancient Greece to the upcoming 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.
 



Wrestling: with ideas and each other
Using a contemporary appeal by a famous Chinese musician, students will re-write the Olympic theme song to reflect a message of peace that has transcended the ages of Olympic competition.



Discus (Oops, I mean Discuss)
Students will use an interactive website to explore some sounds and sights of China.  Students will also connect their learning of Chinese culture to their understanding of Canadian culture.



Javelin: one competition… but there are many more!
As a Canadian Athlete traveling to China to compete in the 2008 summer Olympics, students will research an event of their choice and write a letter home explaining what is expected of them at the games. 



185 metre dash - the final and most exciting challenge!

Students will use their new found knowledge to create a Powerpoint presentation designed to teach a family
member about the evolution of the modern games.
