Summary of the event. What actually happens?

You must use separate targets standing the official 70 meters away and shoot. The people closest to the bull’s eye will move on. If more than one person hits the bull’s eye they must shoot again. In the event of a tie the people that tied will shoot as close as possible to the target in 40 seconds. Your main goal is to try to hit the target as close to the center if you get a bull’s eye you win that round.

What does it feel like to participate?

I think it feels great to participate in the archery tournament and I have always had an interest in archery. Not to my knowledge I know every one just wants to win but it is very difficult to win at such a stress level. You must hit a target from a large distance away. The officials can put the target to exactly seventy meters away from the area with the archers. In archery you need to be the best with aiming and judging of the wind so you don’t miss.

What kind of training is involved?

You must have physical training to pull the bow string back and you must be very accurate at judging how far you aim. They can get a short bow in stead of a long or composite bow and they could have the targets closer than for the men. You could have to compete against the women so it is far. The same rules will apply for everyone and you must have the equipment.

What equipment do you need?

What you need to participate in archery is a quiver, chest guard, arm guard, 22 kg bow for men and 15 kg bow for the women, bowstring, shooting glove, handle grid. You also need to have a sight, and Stablisher. The arrow must have fletching, a nock, must have competitors name labeled on it clearly, and it must be 9.3 millimeters in diameter. The fletching on the arrow must be a certain color to show whose arrow it is so that if the labeling fails the competitors may refer to color coating on the fletching. You also will need a target that is 1.22 meters and is 70 meters away the bull’s eye must be at the most 12.2 centimeters.

When and where is the event being held during the upcoming Olympics in Beijing?

It will take place on august 9-15, 2008 for both men and women to participate. It will take place in the Olympic green archery field for the best accuracy.  Green field is the original place that competition archery was first taken place. The time is convenient because it is not the hottest season or the coldest. They wear protective clothing so that you do not get hurt so you do not want to participate when it is the hottest month so they put it closer to the fall.
