FENCING |
Summary of the event. What actually happens? |
Fencing has evolved form the ancient form of combat, you go onto the Piste, where you opponent is waiting. You score a point by touching your opponent’s target area with the point of your blade. |
What does it feel like to participate?
|
It is very invigorating to go out there with everyone watching and start the game. The entire time you have to be active, dodging so you can’t stop and take a break so you need to be quite fit. |
What kind of training is involved? |
Basically, the only way to get good is to practice, so you would go to a gymnasium with about ten courts and fence with other people.
|
What equipment do you need? |
You need a chest guard, a mask, and gloves to protect yourself. You need a sword to fence with; you could use a saber, a rapier, epee or a foil. The part you hold is called the hilt, the next part is called the guard, which protects your hand. The last part is the blade, the part you hit the opponent with. You also need a Piste, which is a place to fence on. |
