Summary of events, what happens? |
| The time of the contest is three rounds of two minutes each, with a one-minute rest period between rounds. In case of a tie score after the 3rd round, a 4th round of two minutes will happen as the sudden death overtime round. |
Legal Scoring Areas
|
- Mid-section of the trunk- 1 point
- Face: The whole part of the face including both ears- 2 points
|
1 additional point shall be awarded in the event that the contestant is knocked down and the referee counts.
Match score shall be the sum of points of the three rounds.
Cancellation of points: When a contestant performs an attack to score through the use of the illegal acts, the points scored shall be lost. |
Knock-down
|
1. When any part of the body other than the sole of the foot touches the floor due to the force of the opponent's delivered technique.
2. When a contestant is spread out showing no cause or ability to go on with the match.
3. When the referee judges that the contestant cannot continue as the result of any power having been delivered. |
What does it feel like to participate… |
| The adrenalin and the rush of get out there and fighting is great – Many fights came down to a golden round in order to determine the winner - and battle sore and weary competitors forced their bodies to the max to grab the single point they needed to secure victory - and the crowds loved it! |
What kind of training is involved? |
| Lots of physical training and practice is involved to go the Olympics. It is better to start doing teakwondo while you are young usually around 7-10. (To get more practice and to be able to know what you are doing so you can go to the Olympics.) but there is no age limit to start. You have to be able to demonstrate a reasonable attention span and the willingness to listen and obey all commands of the Head Instructor and try as hard as you can. |

Trunk protector- Used to protect parts of the upper body
Dobok- White trousers and jacket
Forearm and shin guards- Used to protect forearms and shins

| When and where is the event being held during the upcoming Olympics in Beijing? |
| The taekwondo event is part of the the 29th Olympic Games. It will be held at University of Science and Technology Beijing Gymnasium from August 20-23, 2008. |
