Question: What was it like to compete in the Ancient Olympic Games?

Ancient Greek athletes, just like modern day athletes needed to be in top form to compete in the Olympic Games.

So now it’s time to get you into social studies shape.  Let’s begin with a warm-up!

Challenge 1:

Login into this website...

As you take your interactive tour of the Ancient Greek Games, complete the worksheet with the missing information.

Challenge 2:

Using the information you have collected, create a fictional story like that of Megakles using non-fictional events.

What is your name?  Which events are you participating in?  On which day do they occur?  What do you have to do before you can compete?  What happens if you win?

Please remember that women in Ancient Greece were not able to participate in the Olympic Games the same way men were.  If you wish to write a story about a Ancient Greek Woman, perhaps she could be the wife, sister or friend of one of the competitors.

Once you have finished your warm up, it’s time to begin the Pentathlon!

The first event will be the Long-Jump.  Are you ready?
