 |
Appearance (What they look like)
Iguanas are a type of lizard.
These reptiles have a long tail, eyelids, and four sprawling legs.
Iguanas vary in color from green to brown to yellow.
They use their powerful legs to swim and climb trees.
These animals live about 15-20 years. |

|
Habitat (Where they live)
Iguanas are found in many different places.
They live in the tropical rainforests, deserts, and the sea.
They spend most of their time high up in the trees away from their enemies.
They also can move very quickly on the ground and are excellent swimmers.
They have long sharp claws to help them climb trees and get away from their enemies. |
|
Diet (What they eat)
Iguanas are mainly herbivores (plant-eaters).
They eat leaves, flowers, and fruit.
They will also eat insects, worms, eggs and other small animals. |
| |
Babies
A female (girl) will dig a small hole in the soil and she will lay 20-70 eggs.
After the mother covers the eggs with soil, she leaves forever.
When the eggs hatch, the babies live in trees and eat insects that they catch themselves. |
| |
Enemies
Iguanas are killed by some large birds, foxes, rats, weasels, some snakes, and people.
Their eggs are also eaten by many animals. |
