| As Television Producers and Reporters, your job is to inform the public about fossil fuels and their role in the global warming issue. You will be divided into investigative research teams to unearth these facts about fossil fuels. |

| Task A - Part 1 |

|
Where are the fossil fuels found in Alberta? |
- Create a wall-sized map of the fossil fuels found in Alberta. Using the overhead, project the outline of Alberta onto the paper that you have taped to the wall. Trace the image onto the paper.
|
- Draw lines to show the 6 regions of Alberta adn the location of the oilsands
|
- Paint each region a different color and paint the oilsands black.
|
- Design a symbol for fossil fuels, size your symbol so that it works with your map
|
- Photocopy the appropriate number of symbols for your map. Cut out and then glue the symbols onto the appropriate locations on the map.

- Create a clear title and legend for your map.

- Prepare a script by writing down what each reporter will say about the location of fossil fuels and the oil sands in Alberta.
- Conference with the producer (your teacher). Make any necessary changes.
- Rehearse by reading your script until it flows well.
- Discuss costumes that will enhance your presentation.
- Bring costumes on filming day.

As part of a local news team, your job is to research and report information about fossil fuels. Your broadcast will be videotaped and watched by viewers in your area.
- Read resources provided.
- Make jot notes answering the questions on the organizer provided.
- Prepare a script by writing down what each member of the news team will say.

Put your creativity to the test! Your job is to research, plan and produce a commercial to make people aware of how to conserve energy and take better care of the environment. They will learn practical alternatives to burning fossil fuels. Your commercial will be videotaped and watched by viewers in your area.
- Choose one of the following topics and read resources provided.
- fuel alternatives (i.e. canola, ethanol, biodiesel)
- electric or hybrid cars
- wind power
- solar powered homes
- recycling - where, what, how
- energy efficient products (appliances, improved home insulation)
- Make jot notes answering the questions on the organizer provided.
