Glossary of Terms

Article: A newspaper story.
Climate: What the weather is like over a long period.
Cultural diversity Differences in groups having a variety of languages, ethnicity, nationalities,
Details: A small part of information.
Editor: Someone who checks stories and articles for mistakes.
Goods Items that are made and have value.
Gossip:  Personal information about other people.
Hook: A piece of writing that grabs the reader’s interest.
Horoscope: Some people believe that you can predict what will happen to certain people who were born on specific dates.  A horoscope tells them what might happen in their future.
Illustrator: A person who draws or makes the newspaper look better by adding colour.
Inuit A native living in the Arctic.
Opinion: Someone’s personal belief about something
Photographer: Takes pictures that go along with the stories. 
Physical geography The study of the physical characteristics of the environment.
Publisher: Somebody who is in charge of a particular part of a newspaper.
Quality of Life:  The amount that people enjoy their lives.
Reporter: Somebody whose job is to find out facts and tell people about them.
Revise: To change the words of a story to make it better or more interesting.
Rural Relating to farming; or sparsely populated; of or relating to people who live there.
Services Physical or intellectual labour. People who help others in their job.
Urban Relating to cities or city life.
Weather: What the air is like outside right now.
